LovePosted by Eskil Fri, September 03, 2010 20:39:29This weekend Love will be free to play for anyone who wants to. All you need to do is download the client(42Mb), un-zip it start love.exe . Then just click "play for free" and you are in. If you are having technical problem check out this page.
The key to playing love is taking your time, and to talk to other players, preferably using teamspeak.quelsolaar.com (you can download the client at teamspeak.com). "Love in verses" and "Gaming Love" are two good fan sites that has lots of good info.
This release is not only significant because of the free weekend, but the fact that it contains some cool new gameplay. I have added some new objects that the different tribes hold very dear, and they will therefor greatly influence how they treat you. Thats the thing about Love, it keeps evolving so for the proper Love experience I will be working this weekend to update and make changes to the game so expect a few releases. If you get disconnected wait a few minutes and then try reconnecting since that was probably me updating the server. To keep track of my work check out the twitter feed. I have no ideas how many players to expect this weekend but if i need to I will try to set up enough servers. If you are having trouble getting in, wait a while and try again.
I will be on TeamSpeek all my waking hours, so come say hello or if you are shy why not send me an e-mail? Love is constantly changing and updating because of user requests so please share your thoughts with me. Finally if you would like to support the continued development of Love, please consider becoming a subscriber, or buy a few vouchers for more play time.

It would be nice to have another "open house" session, because I missed this one, and I'm a little sad about it. I mean, I'm yet ready to subscribe for a month or get fully involved with the game, I'm studying computer engineering, I won't have time for the game for several months, but I'd at least enjoy experiencing the scapes, y'know?
I'm going to subscribe to your RSS, because even after taking philosophy and social communication classes I find your writings to be well-articulated and engaging. Thank you very much for sharing your ideas with me.

I'm told Love works in Wine, but I haven't tested it myself.

I tried the "Play For Free" option and it brings me to a download screen that stays at 0%. Anyone have an suggestions how to fix this? I couldn't find any forums on the site to ask.

Scud, you downloaded an old client, download a new one and it'll work.
Max, You get the Display Tool, aka the Config Tool from grey token altars. You then need to place it in your base for it to become useable. You'll need to equip it like other tools, by looking at the placed building and pressing 1 through 4 to put it into a slot.
Hostile AI and players look very different, once you get a little more accustomed to the game, you'll easily be able to differentiate between the two. Also, you can see players name's in the letterboxing, if there's no name, it'll be AI.
To save a coordinate to your inventory, look at the ground, press the middle mouse button (or esc) to open up the full menu, and then click the coordinate in your toolbar. It'll then be saved there.
There are plenty of guides available on my site, and people willing to answer any questions you may have.

I'll try again if the Free-Weekend gets a name-fix update and also if there's some explanation of where to get a Display tool?
Now once I started I got a token but when I used it nothing happened. I've tried to connect power to pylons but I have no idea on how to get coordinates stuck in my inventory, I accidentaly got a teleporter coordinate but I didn't know how to use it or even how to get another teleporter there.
I like the game visually, but as others have stated, it's hard to know if you are watching someone hostile or someone of your own tribe.
Instructions could also push more towards actually using tokens. It seems like many are running around with buildings on their backs but don't care or don't know how to use them ruining the game for the others.

I found an issue with crashes when loading. I will have new client out with a fix later today.

Client doesn't run in Wine anymore :/ Just as well I stopped playing, I guess

64-bit, sorry, lol. If there are simple fixes to some of the problems people may be having, perhaps making a post letting us know would be helpful.

I REALLY wanted to try this game out, but I just couldn't get it to work. Windows Vista 65-bit here. It looks so beautiful, but after selecting "free play" and the loading screen, it goes to a screen that hangs. If I wait long enough a red border develops on the bottom and top. Clicking too many times causes it to crash. I'll check back tomorrow to see if you've fixed this, and if you have I'd be happy to try it, but I just can't risk spending money after this free weekend if I won't even be able to run it on my machine. I really hate to say it, but for such a great game, this free weekend may have been a bad idea...

I've looked been looking at love for a long time, wishing I could play. I have tried it on my laptop, where it failed, and I tried it in a virtual machine, where it failed silently. I'm really hoping you make a Mac or Linux version, because I'd love to play this game, but have failed in my attempts.

Well here's an odd issue. I downloaded the client a day or two ago when I saw it posted on RPS since I had been interested in this from one of the initial demos.
However after attempting to start it up i see no 'Play for free' link in the client and instead just see things about creating an account, which you need a voucher for, or logging in.
Did I get a bunk version or something?

So I just read about your game in PC Gamer a few days ago and I was intrigued.. So I came to check it out. And I see it's PC only. Is there a chance of the game client being ported to linux? Think about it :)

*grins* Thanks for the reply - sorry, strange mood earlier led to leaving a rather incoherent and grim bit of feedback.
The naming is the major issue - totally crippled all efforts at communication. Individual identity seems vital to survive/succeed in such a convoluted environment - in order to rendesvous with others and delegate tasks, names seem necessary. In terms of game design and psychology, an interesting opportunity to see what happens under circumstances without identity.
Glad to hear it's solved :)
I can see the logic in the power networks, the coordinates, the tools - it's just not immediately visible to the newcomer, in this world of artistic, surreal chaos. Makes the game fairly inaccessible to anyone with lesser patience, I guess.
But it's a distinct visual identity, which is a lot more than most games can claim.
Overall, despite the unfortunately frequent crashing and the numerous bugs, I was impressed by Love.
I'll be playing again soon - thanks for the opportunity to try it for free, Eskil =)

The naming issue has been fixed, a new client is coming out now. It was hard to test the free to play before it when live and that what created to problem with the names.
There is lots of logic in the game, just not the same logic you are used to. :-)'
A lot more fixes will be coming.

I enjoyed my few hours of play, despite constant crashing and not achieving a single meaningful thing.
You have good community members, like Tinit supporting the newcomers, but the bug-ridden state of the game just wasn't suitable for a free weekend.
I think you've given a lot of people a fairly bad impression of the game - I have the patience to try again, but I think I'll wait until after the free weekend has concluded before I willingly immerse myself in colours, light and madness again.
With infinite Visitor Obessas destroying everything, crashes every 5-15 minutes that remove all tokens, and no apparent logic to any available gameplay.. Confusing.
All stuff I'm sure you intend to solve.
Still fun to explore, but I'd raise one note; the lack of sound effects during combat mixed with the psychedelic visual representations of AI and the world around them makes combat confusing and unrewarding. I never know whether I'm hitting my target, or really when they're dead either, as they seem to vanish..
