The great achievement of nothingness.
LovePosted by Eskil Steenberg Mon, March 17, 2008 19:39:27Lets make one thing clear, whatever you do in a videogame, its not an achievement. Why have video games become so goal oriented? isn't the journey suppose to be the goal in video game? aren't they just here to entertain us? Apparently not, Games are hard work. Its not fun but it has to be done, grind on. Every time i play a game now a days, i have this feeling that I'm not serious enough, I don't find all hidden packets, do all stunts, collect all dog tags, or carry around garden gnomes. Lets not talk about online, if you don't play 50 hours a week be sure to the game will punished your great sin by holding in all goodies, not to mention the punishment you will get from your fellow players.
Why does it have to be so serious? Playing games isn't important, You may think that people who make games are important, but then you meet like a doctor.
But maybe that's it, we are moving in to a world of hollow achievements, like YouTube fame, Facebook friends, and WOW levels. And in a world of global worming maybe that's a good thing. Because if you think of it, Global warming is a cause that all underachievers can embrace. No need to be a globetrotting, action man to save the world. No need to Drive that flashy big car, or heat that big house. When you wake up in the morning, don't even turn on the lights, just go back to sleep and dream about the climate saving hero you are. Every one can be an overachiever by achieving nothing.
So whats left to do? Love is the answer, as always.
